1995 Conference Update

The Annual Conference of the AAHPSSS will be held at the University of New South Wales from the morning of Saturday July 8 to the afternoon of Tuesday July 11.

Please think, even at this early stage, of papers that you would like to present. And pencil the dates in your diaries.

Some approaches have already been made to persons to act as Session Coordinators. If you would like to organise a group of papers on some theme (for a whole day, or half a day), please let me know as soon as possible.

I'm pleased to be able to let you know that Associate Professor Ruth Barton of Auckland University has kindly agreed to present the Dyason Lecture. I am currently trying to get someone to come as a British Council visitor, following the great success of John Brooke's visit this year.

On the question of venue, it appeared that the Blue Mountains suggestion could not be followed through because of insufficient accommodation at an affordable price. We explored the possibility of going to Newcastle University, but accommodation was not available there either.

It is acknowledged that the University of New South Wales is not an ideal location for a 'sociable' conference. However, we shall endeavour to make everyone's stay pleasant and intellectually profitable. Also, those who have not visited the campus recently may be astonished to see how it has been improved in the last few years. Of course, Sydney is a good locality for attracting a large number of enrolments to a conference. (The accommodation charge will be very reasonable, by the way: $45 per day for full bed and board.)
