Born: 23 August 1844  Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Died: 22 January 1928  Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.
Henry Yorke Lyell Brown was a member of the Victorian, Western Australian and New South Wales Geological Surveys 1865-82 and was Government Geologist in South Australia 1882-1912.

Career Highlights
Born Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, 23 August 1844. Died Adelaide, 22 January 1928. Teacher, King's College, Windsor, Nova Scotia 1860-62; student, Royal School of Mines, London 1863-64; Geological Survey of Victoria under A.R.C. Selwyn (q.v.) 1865-69; government geologist in Western Australia 1870-72; private mining in Victoria and New Zealand 1872-74; work with Selwyn, Canada 1874-81; work for the New South Wales government 1881-82; government geologist of South Australia 1882-1911; honorary consultant to the Department of Mines in Adelaide until his death. Produced a geological map of South Australia 1899.
