Born: 31 August 1887  West Maitland, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 9 December 1969  Concord, New South Wales.
Walter Lawry Waterhouse, appointed lecturer in agricultural botany, University of Sydney in 1921, was promoted to reader in agriculture in 1937 and became research professor in 1946. He bred wheat varieties noted for their rust resistance, baking quality and high yield.
