Clark, Graeme Milbourne (1935 - )

Born: 16 August 1935  Sydney?, New South Wales, Australia
Graeme Milbourne Clark became Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Melbourne in 1970, and s now a Honourary Laureate Professorial Fellow at the University’s Department of Otolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. Clark was the leader of the team that developed the cochlear implant ("bionic ear"), which allows profoundly deaf people to hear speech, and other hearing devices, such as the electrotactile hearing aid, the "Tickle Talker". Clark's device is still the world leader in its field, and his team is still engaged in ground-breaking research into deafness.
