Laverack, Michael ( - 1993)

 
Marine scientist
Born: Croydon, England.  Died: 28 July 1993.
Michael Laverack was a Professorial Fellow, Macmillan Laboratory, University of Melbourne 1990-93, having previously been Professor of Marine Biology and director of the Gatty Marine Laboratory 1969-85. He wrote "The Physiology of Earthworms" (1963) and "Lecture Notes in Invertebrate Zoology" (1974).

Career Highlights
Educated University of Southampton (BSc 1955, PhD 1959). Scientific officer, Nature Conservancy, Lecturer, University of St Andrews 1960-69, Professor of Marine Biology and Director of the Gatty Marine Laboratory, University of St Andrews 1969-85. Took early retirement from St Andrews in 1990, and took up a 5 year appointment as a Senior Research Fellow with the Australian Research Council to conduct full-time research in the Zoology Department at the University of Melbourne, where he joined the Macmillan Laboratory as a Professorial Fellow. Fellow, Institute of Biology 1970, Fellow, Royal Society of Edinburgh 1972.
