John Burn worked in the UK Meteorological Office for 17 years (joining in 1947) prior to emigrating to Australia in 1964 and starting work with the Bureau of Meteorology at Adelaide Airport. He retired after 27 years service in 1991, as Principal Technical Officer in the Queensland Regional Office.
