Bond, George Alan (1876 - 1950)

Born: 22 May 1876  Louisville, Kentucky, United States of America.  Died: 1 June 1950  Ashfield, New South Wales, Australia.
George Alan Bond began spinning cotton yarn and manufacturing towels and knitted garments in Sydney in 1923. This was the first serious attempt to spin and weave cotton in Australia.

Born Louisville, Kentucky, USA, 22 May 1876. Died Sydney, 1 June 1950. Arrived Sydney 1906; importer of hosiery and underwear 1906-14; hosiery manufacturer from 1914, converted into a public company, George A. Bond and Co. Ltd 1920; began spinning and weaving cotton 1923; formed a subsidiary company, George A. Bond Cotton Mills Ltd 1926; company went into liquidation 1927 and sold to Bond Industries Ltd 1930; Bond declared bankrupt 1931; manager of a small hosiery firm, Jeanette Manufacturing Co., founded by his wife in 1928.
