O'Grady, Francis Philip ( - 1981)

Francis Philip O'Grady was Director-General, Posts & Telegraphs 1961-65. Earlier in his career he worked on the expansion of long distance telephone dialling in South Australia. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Career Highlights
CBE 1964. Temporary messenger, Postmaster-Generals's Department (PMG) 1915-ca 1918; Uhnehaun and Johnstone, an Adelaide electrical engineering firm ca 1918-23; mechanic, PMG ca 1923, engineer 1923-59, Deputy Director-General, Posts & Telegraphs 1959-61, Director-General 1961-65. His work included telephone equipment design, instructing mechanics in techniques for the new carrier equipment, design work for the national broadcasting system in South Australia, long distance signalling and the development and installation of a train control system.
