| Ernest Selwyn Hughes was vicar of St Peter's, Eastern Hill 1900-26. In 1915 he led a deputation of the members of the Melbourne Metropolitan Hospitals Board of Supplies waiting on the Minister for Customs, recommending that 'a Federal Government Institute for the preparation of therapeutic sera, vaccines and organ extracts should be established'. This was one of the factors that led to the establishment of the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories in 1916. |
