Born Sydney 23 March 1893; died Sydney 24 July 1987. Education Sydney University (B.Sc. 1916, D.Sc. 1937) and Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge (Ph.D. 1926). Lecturer in physics Sydney University 1916-28; Assistant professor 1928-39. Officer-in-charge, Physics Section, National Standards Laboratory, 1939-45; Chief, Division Physics, C.S.I.R./O., 1945-58. President of the Australian Branch Institute of Physics 1950-51.
