Born Adelaide 21 September 1888; died St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., 19 June 1947. Education University of Adelaide (B.Sc. 1909, D.Sc. 1922), University of Leeds, 1912-13, and Lehigh University (M.S. 1916). 1851 Exhibition scholar 1911-13. Demonstrator in physics, University of Toronto, Canada, 1913-14. Instructor in physics at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., 1914-16; University of Missouri 1916-18; Iowa State College 1919-20. Instructor in physics, Washington University, St. Louis, U.S.A., 1920-21; assistant professor 1921-24; associate professor 1924-30; professor 1930-47.
