Assistant Lecturer to Reader, University of Canterbury 1938-64; Professor of Physics, University of Newcastle (New South Wales) 1964-80, Emeritus and Honorary Professor from 1980, Dean of Science 1965-68, 1977-78, Deputy Chairman of Senate 1973-74; Managing Director, Energy Consultants Australia Pty Ltd. E.R. Cooper Memorial Award; Michaelis Memorial Prize.
