Born: 14 September 1804  Lyme Regis, Dorset, England.  Died: 3 February 1881  London, England.
John Gould visited Australia in 1838-40 with his wife, Elizabeth Gould (qv), and on his return to England published fourteen volumes on the birds and mammals of Australia illustrated by both himself and Elizabeth.
