Born: 1 April 1905  North London, England.  Died: 26 August 1986  Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Raymond James W. Le Fèvre was Professor of Chemistry, University of Sydney 1946-70, and Head of the School of Chemistry 1948-70. Earlier he was Lecturer then Reader in Organic Chemistry, University College London 1927-46.

Born North London, 1 April 1905. Died Sydney, 26 August 1986. Educated East London College, University of London (BSc 1925, MSc 1927, DSc 1935). Lecturer in organic chemistry, University College London 1928-38, Reader 1938-39; Directorate of Scientific Research, Air Ministry 1940-45; Head of Chemistry Department, Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough 1945-46; Professor of Chemistry, University of Sydney 1946-70 and Head, School of Chemistry 1948-70; Honorary Professorial Fellow, Macquarie University from 1971. H.G. Smith Medal, Royal Australian Chemical Institute 1952; Coronation Medal 1953; Foundation Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1954, Fellow, Royal Society 1959; Liversidge Lecturer, Royal Society of New South Wales 1960; Royal Society of New South Wales Medal 1969; Masson Lecturer, Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science 1967; Fellow, Royal Institute of Chemistry; Fellow, Royal Australian Chemical Institute.. President, Royal Society of New South Wales 1961. The R.J.W. Le Fevre Memorial Prize for distinguished basic research by a young scientist in chemistry, particularly physical chemistry, was established by the Australian Academy of Science in 1989.
