Born: 14 July 1917  Kings Cross, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 23 September 1988  Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
Patrick Alfred P. Moran was Professor of Statistics at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Australian National University 1952-83. He was the son of Herbert Michael Moran.

Experimental officer, Ministry of Supply 1940-43; Australian Scientific Liaison Office, London 1943-45; Baylis Research Studentship, St John's College, Cambridge 1945-46; Senior Research Officer, Institute of Statistics, Oxford University 1946-51; foundation professor of statistics, Australian National University 1952-82; honorary Visiting Fellow, National Health and Medical Research Council Social Psychiatry Research Unit, Australian National University 1983-88. Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1962; Lyle Medal, Australian Academy of Science 1963; honorary life fellow, Royal Statistical Society 1970; Fellow, Royal Society 1975; honorary life member, Statistical Society of Australia 1978; Pitman Medal, Statistical Society of Australia 1982. First president, Statistical Society of Australia 1963-64; president, Australian Mathematical Society 1976-78.
