Born: 11 February 1917  Waverley, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 8 April 1976  Roseville, New South Wales.
Ernest Ritchie joined the Chemistry Dept of the University of Sydney in 1937 as a Demonstrator in Organic Chemistry and remained with the dept until his early death. He was appointed to a personal chair in 1967 and then Professor of Organic Chemistry in 1971. Ritchie was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (FAA) in 1963.
