Stokes, John Lort (1812 - 1885)

Born: 1812.  Died: 11 June 1885  England.
John Lort Stokes worked for 18 years on board the "Beagle" (mostly as a surveyor and as Commander) which surveyed Australian waters from 1837. On his return to England he wrote a two volume study entitled "Discoveries in Australia" (London, 1946).
