Published Sources
Navigator
Luis Vaez De Torres sailed through Torres Strait along the coast of New Guinea ca 1607, then sailed on the Manila, where he arrived on 22 May 1607. The report of his voyage seems to have been filed and overlooked until the British occupied Manila in 1762.

Career Highlights
Nothing known of his birth, early life, or death. Commanded the San Pedrico 1605-07 which left Callao, Peru, on 21 December in search of the supposed southern continent. Effectively assumed command when the ship carrying the leader of the expedition was lost in a storm. Sailed through Torres Strait, thus discovering that New Guinea was not the northern peninsula of a southern continent.
