Corlette, James Montagu Christian (1880 - 1969)

Born: 25 August 1880  Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 11 December 1969  Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
James Montagu C. Corlette worked for the Hunter District Water Supply and Sewerage Board 1908-14 and 1919-45. He was chief engineer 1925-45. Both he and his wife, Ruby, received awards for their service during World War I.

Educated University of Sydney (BE with honours in civil engineering 1902 and mining and metallurgy 1903). Hon. DE, University of Newcastle 1966. Demonstrator, engineering school, University of Sydney 1904-05, lecturer, Kalgoorlie School of Mines 1905-07, engineering staff, Hunter District Water Supply and Sewerage Board 1908-45 (chief engineer from 1925). Military voluntary work ca 1899-1914, 1921-43, war service in Europe 1914-19, group commander, Volunteer Defence Corps, Newcastle area 1941-43, Volunteer Officers' Decoration 1923.Warren Memorial Prize for engineering, Institution of Engineers 1945, Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal 1946. President, Newcastle division, Institution of Engineers, Australia 1927-28, president, Institution of Engineers, Australia 1930, president, Newcastle division, Australian Planning Institute 1954, president, United Service Club, Newcastle 1927-56. Corlette Fountain Court, engineering school, University of Newcastle given in his memory 1973.
