Favenc, Ernest (1845 - 1908)

Explorer and Journalist

Born: 21 October 1845 Walworth, Surrey, England. Died: 14 November 1908 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Ernest Favenc explored areas of northern Australia between 1865 and 1888. He wrote the "History of Australian Exploration 1788-1888".

1865 - 1879 Worked on stations in Queensland
1878 - 1879 Led an expedition from Blackall to Darwin to determine the practicability of a transcontinental railway
1882 Established a station on Creswell Creek in partnership with De Salis Bros.
1883 Explored the country watered by the Macarthur River
1888 Explored pastoral land round the upper Gascoyne and Ashburton Rivers
c. 1890 History of Australian Exploration 1788-1888 published
c. 1893 - c. 1905 Journalist with the Evening News
