Bell, Marcus (? - 1934)

Marcus Bell was Head of the Munitions Supply Board Laboratories at Maribyrnong from their establishment in 1921 until his death in 1934. After completing his education at the University of Melbourne, he became Assistant to the Chief Inspector of Explosives of Victoria, then Chemical Adviser for the Department of Defence (1911-14). As part of this job Bell was sent to England to study military explosives. Upon his return, he became Director of Munitions in Australia during World War I and Superintendent of Laboratories after World War I. Bell was President of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Chemical Institute from1926-1927 and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
