Minton, Clive Dudley Thomas (1934 - )

Clive Dudley T. Minton is a businessman whose major hobby is waders. His expeditions to Broome helped to discover the significance of Roebuck Bay as a site where hundreds of thousands of migratory waders entered and departed from Australia each year. This contributed to the setting up of Broome Bird Observatory by the Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union in 1988, the establishment of the Asian Wetland Bureau and the recognition of the East Asian Flyway through China to Siberia, resulting in the Japan-Australia Migratory Birds Agreement and the China-Australia Migratory Birds Agreement.

Tucker Medal, British Trust for Ornithology; Fellow, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1998; John Hobbs Medal 2000. Founder Chairman, Wash Wader Ringing Group, the largest wader banding group in the world, introducing the use of rocket nets; Founder, Victorian Wader Study Group; foundation chairman, Australasian Wader Studies Group; Leader, North West Australia Wader Expeditions to Broome ca 1981 to date; Research Committee member, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1980-88; vice-President, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1989-95.
