| Harry Frederick Recher is particularly interested in conservation issues and the biology of forest birds and has contributed to our knowledge of the effects of both fire and logging on forest bird communities. |

| Educated State University of New York, College of Forestry, Syracuse University and Stanford University (California) (PhD 1964). Postdoctoral positions, University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University 1965-66; lecturer, University of Sydney 1967; research scientist, Australian Museum 1968-88; Department of Ecosystem Management, University of New England from 1988, becoming an associate professor; Professor, School of Natural Sciences, Edith Cowan University. D.L. Serventy Medal, Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union 1994. Co-editor and author of three books, A Natural Legacy: Ecology in Australia ( 1979), Birds of Eucalypt Forests and Woodland: Ecology, Conservation, Management (1985) and Woodlands of Australia, all Whitley award winners. Foundation editor, Pacific Conservation Biology from 1995. |
