Norman Alan (Alan) Walker was Associate Professor (Biology), University of Sydney 1967-85 and Professor of Biology 1985-93. He is interested in transport in plants including charophytes and flowering plants.

Born Brisbane, 12 December 1929. Educated Universities of Queensland (BSc 1953) and Tasmania (PhD 1959). Research Officer, CSIRO Division of Plant Industry 1955-64; CSIRO Postgraduate Studentship, Physiological Laboratory, Cambridge 1960-62; Senior Research Associate, School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich 1964-67; Associate Professor (Biology), University of Sydney 1967-85, Professor of Biology 1985-91, Challis Professor of Biology 1991-93; Director, Centre for Plant Membrane Biology; Visiting Professor, Department of Biophysics, School of Physics, University of New South Wales. Syme Prize 1982 (shared with F.A. Smith, qv); Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1982
