Smith, Richard (Dick) (c. 1930 - )

 
Biochemist
Richard (Dick) Smith retired from the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in 1995 after forty-seven years of service. He joined the Division of Biochemistry and General Nutrition in 1948 shortly after graduating, retired as Chief Research Scientist at the Division of Nutrition but remained on as a CSIRO research Fellow until April 1995. His main area of research was B12 in ruminants and the role thyroid hormone plays in foetal brain development. In 1985 Smith was President of the Australian Nutrition Society.
