The Nurses Board of the Australian Capital Territory is a State Nurse Regulatory Authority established by section 6 of the Nurses’ Act 1988. The Board administers the Act which provides for the registration and enrollment of nurses, the supervision of nursing education and standards and for related purposes. The Board has the responsibility for approving the registration or enrollment of suitably qualified nurses who wish to practice in the Territory as well as monitoring safe practice by those persons.

The Australian Nursing History Project of the School of Postgraduate Nursing, University of Melbourne, has taken a leadership role in facilitating the development of historical information about nurses and nursing in Australia.
