Gipps, George (1791 - 1847)

Science patron and Governor
Born: 1791  Ringwould, Kent, England.  Died: 28 February 1847  London, England.
(Sir) George Gipps was Governor of New South Wales 1837-46. He was vitally interested in exploration during his administration and saw the boundaries of the Colony extended by P. Strzelecki, L. Leichhardt, T. Mitchell and A. McMillan.
