Born: 30 April 1915  Grafton, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 27 January 1984.
Ronald Gordon Giovanelli was Chief of the Division of Physics, CSIRO from 1958-76. He was interested in both optical measurements and solar astronomy.

Chairman, Australian National Committee, International Quiet Sun Years 1962-65, President, Astronomical Society of Australia 1968-71, President, Commission 12 (Solar Radiation), International Astronomical Union 1973-76, Chairman, Australian National Committee for Solar-Terrestrial Physics 1973, 1979-81. Edgeworth David Medal, Royal Society of New South Wales 1949, Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1962.
