| James Snowden Calvert accompanied Ludwig Leichhardt (q.v.) on his 1844-45 expedition from Brisbane to Port Essington. He was the husband of Caroline Louisa Atkinson. |

| Born Otley, Yorkshire, England, 13 July 1825. Died Sydney, 22 July 1884. Migrated to Australia 1841. Went with Ludwig Leichardt (q.v.) from Brisbane to Port Essington 1844-45, manager, Cavan station, near Yass. Keen botanist, who won medals for botanical entries at exhibitions in London and Paris. Commemorated by several place names in Queensland. |
